Our Purpose

  

  • To further the common professional interests of the mortgage lending profession in Western North Carolina, to seek to improve and engage in activities that will improve the conditions for the practice of mortgage lending in the area. 
  • To unite in common organization, those professionally engaged or interested in first mortgage lending and to protect and to promote their mutual interests and further their knowledge, understanding, and sound mortgage lending practices. 
  • To formulate and maintain ethical standards for the guidance of its members and their relations with each other and with the public.
  • To have and hold or sponsor seminars, institutes, conventions, lectures, discussions, and meetings, write, publish, disseminate and circulate books, articles, papers, periodicals, magazines and other information, and generally to further elevate and enhance the educational advancement of the members and others engaged in the making, marketing, and servicing of real estate mortgage loans. 
  • To communicate, alert, and inform its members of pending and proposed changes of mortgage laws and the passage of laws affecting mortgage lending and as to the pending legislation affecting real estate appraisal practices. 
  • To cooperate with public and private agencies in the institution, establishment and maintenance of sound and professional real estate appraisal practices.
  • To make gifts, donations, contributions and other distributions to organizations that qualify as an exempt organization.
  • To carry on any lawful activity calculated, directly or indirectly, to promote the interests and purposes of the corporation or to enhance the value of its properties, under such powers and rights which are now, and which may hereafter be conferred upon non-profit organizations organized under the law of the State of North Carolina. 
  • Notwithstanding any other provision of these Bylaws, the purposes for which the corporation is organized shall be limited exclusively to those purposes as come within the meaning of Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or the corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Revenue Code.

Jeff Rice has been a mortgage advisor since 1994 and joined the Board of the Western North Carolina association in early 2020. Jeff has been married to his wife, Misty (who is also a mortgage advisor), for 22 years and they have two daughters together - Alyssa and Paige. Jeff is active in congregation and enjoys working with the youths 

  

Jeff Rice has been a mortgage advisor since 1994 and joined the Board of the Western North Carolina association in early 2020. Bruce is about as local as you can get!  He attended East Henderson High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from The University of North Carolina at Asheville.  Bruce began his mortgage career in 2005 and served as a Loan Officer for 15 years.  He currently works as an Account Executive for Lender Select Mortga

Bruce is about as local as you can get!  He attended East Henderson High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from The University of North Carolina at Asheville.  Bruce began his mortgage career in 2005 and served as a Loan Officer for 15 years.  He currently works as an Account Executive for Lender Select Mortgage where he enjoys building strong relationships with Community Lenders.  Bruce has served as an Officer and Committee Chair for the Western North Carolina Mortgage Bankers Association.  He strongly believes in philanthropy and actively participates in giving back to the local community.  When he is not working, he is likely in the woods exploring the most remote corners of the Southern Appalachians.

Raised in upstate New York, Kate has been a part of the Asheville community for thirteen years. She enjoys serving her community as a member of the Buncombe County Cooperative Extension Advisory Council and the Vice Chair of the Buncombe County Strategic Partnership Grants Committee. Wayne Higgins has been awarded a lifetime member of MBA of WNC.  He has retired as former  Senior Vice President at Carolina Farm Credit. He was responsible for the overall management of the home loan division of Carolina Farm Credit and served as a member of the management team. Wayne is a graduate of Mars Hill University with a degree in business administration and accounting. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Mars Hill University and is the immediate past chair of the Board. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Western North Carolina and is a past president. Wayne is also a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Carolinas. He is a past governor of the North Carolina West District of Optimist International of which he is a member of the Hall of Fame and currently serves as President of the North Buncombe Optimist Club. He is involved in his church and numerous community activities, boards and organizations.

Amy Congdon is an Asheville native. She attended North Buncombe High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Salem College. She entered the mortgage business in 1997 as an assistant in the origination department of a local regional bank. She then joined a local lender where she first met and partnered with Amy Hanks in 2000. Since that time, she has worked as a Processor, an Underwriter, Loan Officer, Operations Manager, Sales Manager and Manager of Closing/Post Closing. Amy became part of the BHMS team in April 2014 and helped them transition from a Broker to an approved Lender in the state of North Carolina. She remains active with her local Mortgage Bankers Association for which she served as President in 2009. She is also active at a state level with Mortgage Bankers Association of the Carolinas.

Melonie Tyner believes in MBA of WNC because we are a group of mortgage professionals collectively working for the betterment of our local community.  We are involved in supporting our local food bank, food and school supplies for our schools, homeless shelters, educating our neighbors to help them navigate the lending process, as wells as 

local, state, and national issues that affect the housing industry.  She had the pleasure of serving as president for our association from 2016 -2017 and thoroughly enjoyed this leadership role. She began her career in banking in 1989 and has focused on mortgages since 1993. This experience has 

introduced Melonie to many wonderful individuals and situations that enable her to provide exceptional customer 

service.
